Humans have come up with some pretty cool innovations. And one of my personal favorites is the hoverboard. An electronic, two-wheeled, portable device that is designed to transport people, it is also known as a self-balancing scooter.
Thanks to Back to the Future, hoverboards will forever be identified with pop culture till time immemorial. Hoverboards contain a platform meant for the rider, that is placed or located between two wheels.
These powered skateboards get their juice from large batteries of lithium-ion that are powered by electricity.
Undoubtedly one of the coolest means of transport, hoverboards have caught the attention of children, adolescents, and adults in equal measure.
But one of the downsides of hoverboards is their need to be charged. Which subsequently means that the charger wire needs to be kept in a sacrilegious place. And yet, somehow it still keeps going missing.
So, we need alternate methods to charge the hoverboard, considering that the charger has decided to abandon you in favor of a better hiding place.
How To Charge a Hoverboard Without A Charger?
An easy way to get your hoverboard charged is by moving the wheels back and forth. Do this for ten minutes the next time you’ve lost your charger. The hoverboard might not be charging due to several reasons.
Every hoverboard variety has a different type of charger. A single charge should last you somewhere between eight and twenty miles. The battery capacity generally lasts a couple of solid hours.
However, this is entirely dependent on the individual model and specification of the hoverboard.
The hoverboard upon purchase is given with a compatible charger. When that charger goes missing or broken, a fellow compatible charger purchased in the market should work well enough.
How Does The Hoverboard Get Charged By Moving It Back And Forth?
We’ve already mentioned that one of the tried and trusted ways of charging the hoverboard is by moving it back and forth for a period of time.
The concept or physics behind this method is that when you move the hoverboard enough times in a motion that is forwards and backwards, the batteries produce enough charge that should help you power up the device for a brief period of time. This should work as a short or temporary relief and lasts less than what a full charge provides you.
But, if you are in a hurry, and the house is upturned, yet the charger is still missing, this should help you get started.
And most probably the one place you forgot to turn upside down must be where you stashed your charger last time thinking that this time you would not forget.
Charging A Hoverboard Without A Charger
The first step you need to do is check the device is charging. If, in case, the device isn’t working even when on charge, you will have to try rolling the wheels back and forth in order to heat up the battery.
The battery side of the hoverboard has to be located. This needs a little bit of work, so put on your Sherlock caps. There exist two different ways to locate which side has the battery and which side doesn’t. And also, this is once again dependent on the model of the hoverboard.
Take your hoverboard, hold it up in your hands. Now try to determine which side seems heavier to you. Naturally, the heavier side contains the battery. However, this is a fickle method since most of the time, it gets confusing.
The second step entails locating which side contains the socket. The opposite or the other side would typically contain the battery.
After you are sure that you have pointed out the right side which contains the battery, you need to place the hoverboard on a leveled surface. Now, try holding the side of the hoverboard that contains the battery with extra pressure.
You can try moving that side of the hoverboard for a few minutes to get the battery charged as well.
After ten to fifteen minutes, try turning on the device. If the green signal is visible, then you have successfully charged the battery. Now take it out on a ride to buy a new charger. As this is a temporary method and will not last long.
Why Does Your Hoverboard Battery Not Charge?
There could be a number of reasons as to why your hoverboard battery refuses to get charged.
Despite the charger being connected, there are times when the hoverboard does not get charged. This could mean that the batteries of the hoverboard are expired, or there exists an issue with the hoverboard’s charging socket.
The first problem is fairly easy to tackle. All you need to do is get replacement batteries. It is advised that the batteries procured be genuine and from an authentic retailer to avoid any further problems.
The issue can also lie with the charger, as the charger could be expired. And you might need a new charger.
Yet another problem could be with the sockets.
For purchasing the batteries, carefully check through the specifications and type of battery that is compatible with your device and buy a battery that offers a stipulated warranty period.
The type of the battery would be mentioned in the manual guidelines provided along with your device.
However, if you had thrown that booklet after receiving your hoverboard, fear not, you can still get the battery type by reading it on the battery specifications.
The charger type would also be mentioned inside of the booklet or the charger itself.
What does the orange light mean on a hoverboard?
If the charger displays a yellow or orange light and doesn’t work, it signifies an issue faced by the internal parts. You will have to get it to a mechanic or repair store.
How Do You Know The Hoverboard Has To Be Charged?
This is pretty standard. When the light embedded in the hoverboard turns red, it indicates that its time to charge your hoverboard. No further delays. The red light signifies that the hoverboard is running out of charge.
It is advised that the battery charger be turned off after it reaches full charge or when the light turns green. Do not overcharge the battery as this could lead to the batteries running out soon.
At the same time, do not undercharge the batteries either. This can lead to an abrupt stop in the middle of riding.
How much is it to buy a hoverboard charger?
Hoverboard chargers range anywhere between less than $5.00 and $20.00. However, as always it is best to get the original charger.
